When a tooth is infected due to dental caries, root canal treatment or RCT maybe an option to try to save the tooth.  It may also be needed when a tooth is diseased or injured.

The aim of the treatment is to remove the inflamed nerve or “the pulp” and clean the root canal.  Several visits may be needed.  A crown may also be recommended to strengthen and protect the tooth.
